Why enter?
Feedback from peers: Judging and comprehensive evaluations by select panels of experienced communication professionals – ABCs and past Quill winners.
Preparation for Gold Quill: Comprehensive evaluations timed so entrants receive the judging critique in time to prepare entries for the 2010 Gold Quill competition.
And if you win……it’s a great resume booster that will distinguish you and your work.

Visit http://www.iabcheritageregion.com/silverquill/aboutSQ.htm for more information or contact Lesley Morrey, Silver Quill 2009 chair at ct-webmaster@iabc.com with any questions on the Silver Quill Awards program.

May Program-Why Corporate Writing Has Lost Its Way

No matter what your level of experience, it’s easy to get confused, and easier still to lose sight of what we know works best: simple, clear and useful communication. Standing in the way of this seemingly simple task: boring topics, approvals, wrong messages insisted on from on high, empty corporate slogans and, of course, office politics.  Attendees enjoyed this amusing webinar produced by Ragan Communications!

April Program - Organizational Assessment and Planning

IABC has published a two-book workbook set that includes a guide and step-by-step plan to conduct an assessment in your own organization, department or work group. At our April program, co-author Stacy Smulowitz, ABC, provided us insights on organizational assessment and planning.

You Be the Judge - Wednesday, April 29

We’ve set the date! Bring your communication skills and knowledge and join a group of six others to judge the Cactus Quill Awards on Wednesday April 29 from 6 - 9 pm at DST Output in South Windsor.  Dinner to be provided.

Not only are you helping out your peers at another IABC chapter, but you’ll also discover some inspiring communication ideas your peers have implemented successfully. In addition, you will find out what separates an average project from an award-winning entry.   And don’t forget, Silver Quill entries for our region will be due in mid July!  If you’ve ever thought your work could win an award, don’t miss this chance to gain an insider perspective of the process.  If you can participate, please send an email to ct-president@iabc.com.

Professional Associations In Times of Economic Uncertainty

Economic conditions such as these tend to impact IABC membership in one of two ways:
1. You can consider the cost as one you just can’t handle,
2. You can consider the cost as one you just can’t cut.

The difference has a lot to do with how you use your membership. If you’re what’s sometimes known as a “member in name only,” it’s easy to choose option 1 — especially if your employer will no longer underwrite the cost. But if you’re someone who makes the effort to be involved in IABC locally, regionally, nationally — or internationally — you’re sure to choose option 2.
